The famed cuisine of Italy will feature in a special series of themed evenings at Meikles Hotel’s La Fontaine Grillroom in mid-September.
The cuisine will be devised and produced by Lorenzo Mottalini, a noted South African chef of Italian descent whose experience and achievements will make this one of the most entertaining of culinary events in Harare this year.
Last year, Italy’s Ambassdor to Zimbabwe, Enrico D’Agostini – a culinary enthusiast – hosted a series of four separate Italian nights at La Fontaine, and this year he has gone further by inviting Chef Mottalini to Harare for another celebration of Italian cuisine. The themed evenings will include a private event hosted by the Ambassador, followed by two public nights.
Chef Mottalini has had 25 years’ experience in catering in South Africa, including career experience at various restaurants and hotels, among them a six-year spell as executive head chef at the Palazzo Intercontinental at Montecassino in Gauteng. He now runs his own company, consulting to hospitality establishments in a range of culinary areas, including menu conceptualising and design. This will be his first professional visit to Zimbabwe.
“We are excited about the visit by this well-known and very respected chef, and not only will we have a chance to enjoy the cuisine he prepares for the Italian evenings, but our chefs and kitchen team will also benefit from attending his training sessions,” said Tinashe Munjoma,  general manager of Meikles Hotel.
